Why This Costs What It Costs

It’s a fair question, and one we’d rather answer directly than dodge: why does a custom system cost what it does? The short answer is that you’re not paying for a handful of smart devices. You’re paying for everything that makes them actually work together.

It’s Not the Gadgets

Anyone can buy a smart plug or a video doorbell. That’s not what drives the cost of a real install. What drives it is the labor behind the scenes — every wire run by hand, every connection tested, every piece of equipment mounted, labeled, and organized so the whole system is reliable and serviceable years from now, not just functional on install day.

Every Wire, Run and Labeled by Hand

Behind every working system is a wall of connections that someone physically ran, dressed, and labeled — not automatically, not with a shortcut. That work is slow by design. Rushing it is exactly how systems end up unreliable.

Hours Nobody Sees

The finished result is the part people notice. The hours that made it possible — the routing, the testing, the troubleshooting, the redoing something that wasn’t quite right the first time — mostly happen out of sight. That invisible labor is the actual product, even though it’s the rack and the wiring, not the lighting scene, that represents it.

What You’re Really Paying For

Not the devices. Not even really the equipment. You’re paying for the work that makes everything behind the walls reliable, serviceable, and built to last — the difference between a system that works for a week and one that works for years.
